But this post is auto-related! I’m now the owner of a 2006 Tribute!

Kinja'd!!!

(not at all like the picture above. his has a bra. and is filthier)

Also titled in his name (but with a mechanic’s lien) is a 1994 Voyager. I might have “owned” it for a minute before deciding what to do with it, since its been parked in disrepair for over a decade.

We’re coping, send love and affection to me and my wife/family. Her grandpa, my father in law’s dad, passed two weeks ago.

Wally, my FIL, has been battling cancer unbeknownst to us for years, and just recently was hospitalized in June for other reasons which brought the cancer to light.

He went fighting at first, refusing all help and medications, and just wanted to GO HOME.

He changed his mind Tuesday morning, hours before the family was to meet and give him the ultimatum to get help and care... he took a turn for the worse shortly after and was mostly unresponsive when they moved him to the Hospice that evening. He was mostly asleep, in and out of very vague consciousness (raising eyebrows, turning his head, kicking his damn leg out of bed for the umteenth time!) and we were told it may be hours, it may be a few days.

But he was comfortable. He was in Hospice, on medications for the pains after going weeks without.

We left, barely able to sleep that night, and were awoken by a call shortly after midnight Wednesday morning.

He passed swiftly in the night.

The funeral is tomorrow, we’re trying to make last minute preparations (Wally had planned to make out a will and talk to the funeral home about a plot and whatnot when he “felt better” next week... he was always the optimist just trying to “go home” and get better on his own) and find his belongings and important paperwork. Kids, don’t let your parents horde. Its.... bad.

Its been a struggle, but we’re managing.

TL;DR My FIL died so I haven’t been on oppo (or the internet much at all) and hording is bad, m’kay? Now I have three damn Mazdas and one isn’t the greatest SUV in the world, it’s only a (filthy inside and out) Tribute.

Well, by driving his vehicle and taking care of it, it would be the greatest Tribute of all.

But seriously, my condolences to you and your extended family. Cancer is always a terrible thing.

I’m sorry to hear that. My Grandfather recently passed away from liver cancer. He was 94 years old and perfectly healthy otherwise, but the cancer killed him very quickly.

Here’s a Corolla coupe rally car.

My sympathies. Take care of the important stuff first and then figure out what to do with the car later. Perhaps it can be useful, if not you can get some cash out of it.

Condolences to you and yours.

My wife’s grandparents both passed over the last 2 years, and it really spoke to us about hording. We had visited a few times and weren’t allowed anywhere but the front room (living room) which was a nearly toppling stack of... who knows. The whole house was like that... it was frightening that two people in their late 80s were living like that. One little avalanche could have taken one, or both, of them out easily.

Then comes the work afterwards. My wife’s last memories of her grandparents were of two things: the siblings bickering about who gets what and why, and her on her knees sorting through the detritus of her grandparent’s life, throwing almost all of it away.

At that point we both made a very strong commitment to cut down on the stuff we own, to keep our house clean and neat and to not leave any such problems for our families when we depart.

Again, condolences, and I hope that your family’s pain and struggles ease soon.

I’m sorry to hear that man. At least it happened relatively quickly and it wasn’t one of those cases where there are weeks of agonizing pain.

My condolences to you and your family. Cancer is a shitty, shitty thing. It’s taken many good people off this planet.

There are worse things to fall in your lap in terms of the car. At least it isn’t a Beige Buick Century or something like that. That’s a pretty nice color if it’s the same as the color pictured.

My aunt had an OG Mazda Tribute. She traded in a ‘93 Foxbody Cobra for it. Possibly the worst trade ever?
